Has anyone ever taken an online class?

Can you help me? How do you keep it all together, the readings, the assignments, the postings?

This professor wants us to join all of these list serves, read posts, post things to our Blackboard page for the class AND to our Yahoo group.

I know this is grad school, but this is ridiculous. I've been in grad school 2 other times, and it's never been like this. I don't know how I can work full time and just take ONE class!

I took 2 online courses, and I agree it seems like more work than a regular class because besides the regular readings you have to read other people's posts and post your own stuff, etc. My only advice is to set aside a little time each day or so to check the online stuff, even if it's only 30-45 minutes, and think of it as the time you would have had to spend sitting in class...that's the only way to stay sane or you'll fall way behind really quickly.

That sounds like a good plan, I think. It's really annoying when I log in on Sunday MORNING and people have already posted for this week's until, which goes Sun-Fri. I just got the book today, I'll try and do some catch-up tonight.

I hate to say it, but I think I'd rather go to a "real" class. Seems very overwhelming.

I've taken 3 online classes and I agree with Ms.M. ;)

For me, I'd set aside 30 minutes a night 3 nights a week after J went to bed to read through posts and post any responses.

Then one night a week I'd take an hour (sometimes more) to do my reading, post my posts (threads started by me, not responses to others), etc.

Keeping ahead is so important.

Thanks A, I think I'm learning this lesson the hard way. *rolls eyes*

Tomorrow night, I'm going to do some reading and posting and Weds night I'll do some more. I think over the weekend I'll do the reading ahead of time for the next unit, so that I can take more of a proactive role in discussions.

I also need to get on the ball with subscribing to all of these listserves...ugh.
